The Ministry Of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India vide its order no. F. 23-13-2009-TS-III Dated 30^th of Oct. 2009 and 3^rd March 2010, has decided to set up ten new NITs . NIT Mizoram is proposed to be started in Mizoram state to cater to the needs of this state. VNIT, Nagpur, is a mentor for the NIT, Mizoram.

Initially classes for the students admitted to First Year B.Tech. program of NIT, Mizoram will be held at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur in view of the fact that NIT, Mizoram campus will not be ready in time. For Further details of VNIT, Nagpur the website www.vnit.ac.in may be referred.The number of seats in NIT, Mizoram is proposed as 90 (45 All India + 45 Mizoram [H.S] ) .
