I came across this news article on the Telegraph and thought it might interest some of you misual.commers. I did some googling of my own and found out that this isn’t the first time such a claim has been put forward. It appears that in 1980 a certain Victor Paul Wierwille published his findings that Jesus died on a pole in Jesus Christ Our Passover. He also showed that there were 4 others crucified with Jesus.
Anyway, this is what’s written on the Telegraph.uk:
Jesus may not have died nailed to the cross because there is no evidence that the Romans crucified prisoners two thousand years ago, a scholar has claimed.
The legend of his execution is based on the traditions of the Christian church and artistic illustrations rather than antique texts, according to theologian Gunnar Samuelsson.
He claims the Bible has been misinterpreted as there are no explicit references the use of nails or to crucifixion – only that Jesus bore a “staurus” towards Calvary which is not necessarily a cross but can also mean a “pole”.

“Jesus MAY NOT HAVE DIED NAILED to the cross because there is no evidence…”
“Mr Samuelsson said the actual execution texts do not describe HOW CHRIST WAS ATTACHED TO THE EXECUTION DEVICE”
Scripture is clear about how Christ was ‘attached’ to the ‘execution device’. He was attached to the execution device by being nailed to it.(Acts 2:23)
“Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it” (John 20:25). This statement by the apostle Thomas is another solid evidence that Christ was hung on a tree or attached to the stauros or cross by being nailed to it.
The problem with Samuelsson’s argument lies not only on Christ not being crucified on a cross but it seems he also denys that he was nailed to the execution device. But Scripture clearly refutes his exposition because there can be no doubt whatsoever that Christ was nailed (khenbeh).
PS : Bible sawi bak belh hi a tha lova, Bible sawi ngei hnawl hi thil hlauhawm tak a ni.
