A woman nursing staff was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her hostel room at the military hospital in the Jalandhar cantonment on Wednesday. Assistant Commissioner of Police (cantonment) Manpreet Singh said that Captain Melody L (28), working as nurse in military hospital and hailing from Mizoram, died under suspicious circumstances in her room in the hostel. Her body was first spotted by her roommate Pratibha Kumari from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh, who too is a nurse in the military hospital.
In her statement to police, Pratibha said that she had gone to bed at about 10:30pm on Tuesday night while Melody was working on her laptop. When she woke up at about 6am on Wednesday morning, she found blood oozing from Melody’s mouth, after which she reported the matter to police. Captain Melody was taken to the military hospital where she died. She was posted here about seven months ago.
ACP said that police had initiated inquest proceedings, and her father Biakzuala, a doctor, had been intimated about the incident.
“As the case is looking suspicious, police will inquire into the matter. Her mobile phone and laptop have been seized. Police will examine the call details of her mobile phone and also check with whom she used to chat on her laptop,” the police officer said. Police were also waiting for the post-mortem report to further proceed in the case.
