Flickr vs Picasa Web Albums

I don’t remember that last time I open my yahoo photo gallery which is notorious for permanently resizing pictures you upload. Has that change today? Doesn’t matter really. Today we have much much better places to store pictures online. And oh yes “Free”.

I have been a big fan of Flickr since I discovered it less than a year ago. I like the ease of use, AJAXY features which enables you to do things like taggin pictures easily and very fast.

But I am today a Picasa Web Ablums convert. Here’s my comparison

For a free account, Flickr gives :

* Space to store most recent 200 pics. If you upload more after 200, the older ones will be visible.
* Monthly bandwith of 20MB.
* Max size of photo 5MB
* Uploader tool
* No Album. Flickr doesn’t let you organize photos by the traditional metho – album. This is my main frustration with flickr.

Picasa Web Albums

* Picasa Web Albums come with 250MB of free storage, or room to post and share approximately 1000 wallpaper-sized photos (at 1600 pixels each).

* Uploader is integraded into Picasa software which me says thought offers minimal photo editing but does what it offers very well.

* Albums. Yes

    Haven’t tried the feature of these two but recently I found out this Shutterfly (shutterfly.com).

    Some of the features:

    # Unlimited photo storage
    # Easy photo sharing
    # Quality photo gifts
    # Custom photo books
    # Personalized photo cards
