    Zangkhua = Ursa Major (aka Big Dipper)
    Zangkhawte = Ursa Minor (aka Little Dipper)
    Chohreivung = Orion
    Khiangtezawngzim = Taurus
    Siruk = Pleiades
    Chawngmawii = Venus
    Hrangchhuana = Jupiter
    Sisakei = Antares
    Siaia = Mars
    Vanpuisaihrua = Join Sirius, Procyon B & Pollux to form an arc
    Dingdipuantah = Capella & three other stars
    Sisil = Polaris (Pole Star, North Star)
    Sivahluk = Rigel (of Orion constellation)
    Varparharsi = Venus (same as Chawngmawii)
    Sikawlhrut = Canopus (second brightest star in the night sky)

    Was an astronomy buff as a kid, the first astronomy book I read was “Arsi Chanchin” by Rev Liangkhaia. I think the book is (sadly) out of print.

    No, and I know this is confusing. Siaia is the star that competes with Hrangchhuana for Chawngmawii’s heart, according to our ancestors. These three are planets (Mars, Venus and Jupiter, respectively), and they align once in every few years. Hence the story (see link to original story).

    Sikeisen, on the other hand, is a *star* (not a planet) or red color called Antares, in the Scorpio constellation.

    On reading the original article more closely it is lacking many details (e.g., the fact that Chawngmawii & Hrangchhuana are planets). I’ll write a blog on this subject one of these days and try to tell a more complete story.

    Looking forward to that. Unless we keep good written docs about such traditional way of naming/calling things, our children won’t know. Myself, I don’t know them properly to begin with.

    Thanks for the info! I’ll ask someone from Aizawl to send me a copy. Would be great to update the book with more modern info about stars, planets and the cosmos in general.
