The Mizoram govt has come down heavily on Guest Lecturers who have been on strike for some time now. 131 persons who are employed in various colleges throughout the state on a part-time basis have been unceremoniously sacked. They have been demanding, among other things, for their posts to be regularised, their rather measly pay to be upped from 4500/- to 8000/- per month and that arrears be given with effect from April. Several of these GLs have been working in this capacity for the last couple of years and have been rejecting more lucrative positions in hopes of having their posts regularised. The Mizoram College Guest Lecturers Association had met on Wednesday, the 20th September, resolving to carry on with their agitation until the govt agreed to their demands.

Va khawngaih thlak hlawm ve. Chhungte pull ngah deuh an nei ve lo hlawm niang. Rs. 4500 is not exactly a king’s ransom, especially when the job is not even permanent.

Yeah..but you can definitely not support a family on that pay. Hna chhe te pawh hi inchuh mai loh chuan a awm tawh thlawt lo a nih hi. the mizoram govt does not have money to employ the needed number of lecturers for colleges and employ these Gls at peanut wages .they shud cut down corruption and perhaps there `ll be enough left to employ full fleged lecturers?….well, still a long way off i guess, when they cant even pay GL.hang the govt!!!

Yeah hang the govt. It just doesn’t give a fug for education. There are fake MRs on the rolls of many big officers and the guys in charge turn a blind eye to all that but won’t give genuine pay to genuine workers! Go figure
