CYMA is preparing for the general conference to be held from October 24 to 26 at Saitual. One of the agendas proposed is to ask the government to create hostel for students[Newslink] undergoing UPSC coaching classes.
The committee said the general conference should debate on whether the state government should be moved to construct a hostel for those preparing for Central government examinations as the state now has very few Central service cadres.
Will hostel facility for Mizo students attending UPSC coaching class at the capital help bring more Mizo Civil Servants? I doubt it.
If I have a chance to throw in an agenda , I would want the YMA leaders to dedate on this question – “Is YMA doing what it really is supposed to be doing?”

Why does the YMA need more Mizo IAS officers? Why is the YMA trying to promote one profession over the others? This does not sound right to me. If the state govt is going to open a hostel, then it should be open to students from all disciplines.

who wants to be an IAS in today`s world anyway…they earn peanuts…go for MBA or IIT sweeties..they earn in lakhs. go private not government .besides the job content in IAS gets boring after 9 years i heard..:) and yes and this hostel they have in mind….what will the criteria be? because one can try for UPSC till u turn 33..so looks like they are building a guesthouse to house well connected people`s kids at a low rate at delhi…who`ll most probably spend more time singing in a choir at delhi mizo inkhawn..rather than slog for UPSC..dont mind me..i`m just air-bashing the world..cuz i had a rough day …

They may be a bit shortsighted with some of their ideas, but at least they try to come up with something which they think will benefit the community. They need to think outside the box and do away with the ‘frog in the well’ attitude.
Instead of trying to get the govt to open a hostel in Delhi for those who can afford to go there and study, they should try to open a well-equipped state library with dozens of internet terminals.On-line courses are plenty and I know people who have gotten into IIT, IIM, MBBS, IAS etc with correspondence tutorials (not necessarily mizos).By library, I dont mean the dismal ones that are there now(or are they still there?), but ones with not only text books but subscriptions to many journals of different subjects. Access to these should of course be free for members. Heck! even if they make the fees a bit high, how much will it be compared to the amount spent travelling and staying in Delhi, studying months on end, not even sure if you’re going to pull through the exams in the 1st or 2nd instance, plus the food, hostel fee, auto fares…etc etc…
They should also think of organising a day or two a year as career day. This too should not merely be passive listening of ‘speakers’ by students, but it should have stalls with pamphlets and they should invite people from all departments and walks of life (even farmers) to actually man the stalls and answer questions in real life by interested youths.I’m sure most people will do it willingly for free.
These are investments for the state. A hostel in Delhi is not going to achieve much. In all probability, it’ll turn out to be another “Mizoram house”, albeit for relatives of those staying in the hostel.
wow…I’ve said a lot!!!

its not about earning..life10…its about ……………..anyways…people think IAS have money thats the public impression…and in most of the case its true also……..not only IAS if a police inspector in banglore can earn 5 lakhs per month who need to be an IAS or IIM……they can earn (if they want) the whole time income of iim and iit graduate in 2 or 3 years….its a fact and we should not deny this…
but YMA think otherwise …but their contemplating move may be wrong coz it may be another dating place for student who stay in delhi in the guise of central government jobs pursuer

True it’s never going to be easy to produce Civil Service officers (IAS,IPS,IFS……etc).
It takes dedication and hard work.
Coming to YMA i really feel they are doing things beyond what they should do.
