Mr. SP Shukla, President, Wireless, Reliance Communication Limited, formally launched the group’s GSM service at Aizawl on 5th February, 2007. Reliance Telecom Limited is the oldest GSM Service Provider in the North East where its operation commenced in 1998.

With the launch of services in Mizoram, Reliance GSM Network is now available in six states of the Northeast. Service in Arunachal Pradesh is expected to be launched very shortly. In Mizoram Reliance network is available on NH54 from Vairengte, Bilkhawthlir, Kolasib, Kawnpui and adjoining villages.

Presently Reliance Network covers 112 towns in the Northeast and additional 197 towns will be on air by March 2007. Further, work is in progress to cover additional 300 locations by the 2nd quarter of next financial year. With this ambitious rollout, Reliance network will be available in all the major towns of the Northeast.

RTL will have special focus on this region and plans have been firmed up to have footprint in almost all inhabitable areas, all national and state highways and railways routes. Reliance Mobile is already the most preferred brand among post-paid subscriber in the Northeast. SMART is its extremely popular brand in the prepaid segment.

RTL already has a total subscriber base of around 5 lakhs, which will touch 1 million soon with the new launches. RTL is in the process of launching GPRS and a host of other value added services. Reliance is committed to give value for money to its subscribers through extensive coverage, better network quality, affordable tariff plans and prompt customer service, said Mr. SP Shukla.
