Aizawl Mar 18: Although not officially recorded, C. Lalmalsawmi, a ten year old girl believed to be the state’s heaviest child, weighing an astonishing 105 kgs, died from unknown ailments on Friday with her funeral taking place yesterday.
Born on June 11, 1996, C. Lalmalsawmi, called ‘Nunu’ affectionately by her parents, C. Thanchungnunga and K. Lalrammawii of Government Complex here, was a normal child at birth weighing 3 kgs. However, when she was one year old, she was already 15 kgs. Though her physical growth was phenomenal, her mental growth was very slow as a result of which she rarely plays with girls her age, but only with other children who are younger than her.
When she started attending school at the late age of six because of the retardation in her mental growth, she had trouble writing small letters although she could write capital letters. This resulted in her leaving school barely after attending school for half a year.
“At first, we were not disturbed by her weight gain. But when well-wishers advised us that something could be wrong with our only daughter, we decided to have her checked which we did in 2004 and 2005 here in Aizawl. We even went to AIIMS in New Delhi. However, all the doctors assured us there was nothing wrong with our daughter despite that her mental growth did not match her physical growth,” Nunu-I’s father Thanchungnunga said during the funeral service yesterday.
The child’s mental growth was so retarded that her parents needed to treat her like a baby though she was mentally alert enough to know when some one tease as her as being too fat or are unpleasant to her, the incidents of which she would complain to her parents.
Nunu-i’s health started deterioting from January-end this year when she contracted what her parents thought was a common cold. The parents were not duly alarmed at first but as the days went by and the child did not show signs of recovering and when they discovered that swelling had taken place in various parts of her body, they took her to a doctor who prescribed medicines. When she showed no signs of improvement, she was taken to the doctors again who said she had pneumonia and referred her to the Presbyterian Hospital in Durtlang.
Doctors here, however, said the child was not inflicted with pneumonia but could not give a correct diagnosis of her condition. According to her father, she was given medication only to increase her urine flow. This can suggest that doctors believe the child had kidney dysfunction and that the swelling in her body was because of this.
When she showed no signs of improvement, the doctors admitted their defeat and even offered to refer them to hospitals in other parts of the country, the father said. Taking her to some other hospitals was an idea the parents quickly discarded not only because of financial reasons, but because they strongly believed that doctors had lost all hope of saving their child.
Taking her back home, the parents watched their dying child helplessly. Their vigil ended when the younger of their two children, their only daughter, breathed her last on Friday morning.

She must be suffering from rare (not so rare, actually) disease. Let her innocent soul rest in peace.

I dont think she will be the only state heaviest child suffering from such disease,[a]her said. Taking her to some other hospitals was an idea the parents quickly discarded not only because of financial reasons, but because they strongly believed that doctors had lost all hope of saving their child[/a].That’s what i keep saying Indian doctor dont know how to give a positive feedback to people when they are such in pain, positive feedback can help the person…it’s says the father lost hope on doctor cause doctors dont know how to give postive feedback to the poor father, where is the government ?? when such suffering are happening which is unlikely to happen, can’t the govt help them?..i should say we aren’t not christian who believe in love…we are just a christian in fashion

@Ben: Who’d know DMT is for David M Thangliana?
Not me.
I have no clue Why Pu David posted a Newslink item here as it is. Most people wd think Newslink ripped off an item from Misual.com.
I’m sure misual.com has more hits than newslink.in
