Goodbye Hutch

April 23rd, 2007 8:36 pm by trekkerboy

I was a long time Hutch customer in Chennai. When I moved to Bangalore in Jan, I went for Hutch again for no good reason but because I used Hutch in Chennai.

Two weeks back they disconnected my connection. I called to enquire. It so happened that they sent an agent to my old address for verification.

Too weeks without a mobile phone was kind of relieving. No SMS recieved. No SMS sent. Good rest for my thumb.

I was asked to visit a Hutch Shop to fix the issue.

I asked why they couldn’t come to my new address. After all, I called up and updated my new address a few days before this happened.

Answer was NO. I was also reluctant to visit Hutch shop and clearly told the call centre agent that I was not going to Hutch shop. “If my phone’s not activated, it’s the end of Hutch for me”, I said.

The agent stood firm to his answer and did not bother to provide options. He could have spoken to his Team Leader/Manager. I am sure there should be options to keep a customer.

I have been looking at Airtel anyway because of their GPRS/EDGE stuff. It felt like a good time to change.

New number means lesser/no marketing calls too :-)

I made the move. I am on call to anywhere in India 1 rupee plan.

Goodbye Hutch. Because wherever I go, you choose not to follow me.

Was using airtel one india plan for 6 months or so. almost everything was one rupee… all local and std calls, even the local sms. but the std sms rate was two rupees. so for the cost of an sms, you could call them up and speak for 2 minutes.

moved to a hutch plan which had a really low tariff plan and took an additional std pack. now i get cheap std rates and still cheaper local rates plus some 300 free sms and 200 mins free local calls evry month. and the best thing is, the std sms rate is just one rupee

Airtel has an interesting plan. I think Talk 249. For a monthly subscription fee of 249 bucks, you get 600 mins of free call to any local GSM mobile.

But the STD rate sucks. 2.40!! You never know.. you could have STD girlfriend, so I didn’t want to take the risk :-)

i thought Hutch was the best while i was in blr. Here in Hyd evrybody’s into airtel so along with the crowd i went… But if u really checked them out, there isnt any good customer service in neither of the two or any other service provider in the country. Im waiting to see if Vodafone makes anything new for Indian customers in Hutch…

I got 3 times within the first 10 days of using Hutch… 2 for lack of residence proof, which was because the guy who was supposed to collect it didn’t show up. And the 3rd time because I was not at home when they came for address verification.
