May be the first, and maybe a history maker. Just smile and read the news, this is the real one in a million.
Marriage in a law court is a rare occurance in the Christian-dominated state of Mizoram. Marriage in a ‘PWD Court’ with a PWD junior engineer as a priest is rarer. But, this is what has taken place at Serchhip a few days back. Lukhi Ram, a muster roll employee under the Mizoram Publick Works Department, and his Mizo lover Zothanpuii of Serchhip town have come across all the barriers to tie the nuptical knots under a makeshift PWD law where an alkatra (bitumen) barrel can well serve as an altar. The marriage ceremony which took place at Serchhip a few days ago, was short and simple; the JE Lalsangliana Sailo administering the oath-taking, followed by a few lines of ‘Dil Dil Dil Dewana’ from the witnesses, and garlanding.

It happened at my native – Kawrthah Khua. Pu Berema was EE for PWD Kawrthah at that time.
The groom was Pu Lalthuamliana Sailo, a staff at Kawrthah High School.
I am not certain what happened. if my memory serves me, Pu Thuama dumped his wife for another married lady Pi Hmingmawii. Pu Berema remarried Pu Thuama and his wife Pi Kaphnuni.
However, Pu Thuama went on with Pi Hmingmawii. He passed away several years ago.
lemme also add Pu Berema once owned the biggest drum (Khuang) in Mizoram. Was made by pu grandfather’s elder bro – Pu Tawndaia. (Full name : Khawvelsualthim Tawndaia )
The centenary drum bit the Pu Berema’s off the record.

[…] The PWD style wed couple probably didnot think the would become this famous. Love In The Time Of Landslides No pastor or priest to make them recite vows, no magistrate to witness the wedding, no papers signed. This couple in Mizoram tied the knot at a ceremony organised by and at a Public Works Department (PWD) office. […]
