Japan is called “Land of the Rising Sun” (School Geography) because it sees the world’s first sunlight. In India, Mizoram (or the North East) is the “Land of the Rising Sun”.
A mainland journalist who had been to the North East is suggesting there be a separate timezone called NEST – North East Standard Time.
There are several reasons why the north-east must have a separate time zone. But one main argument I can advance in this regard is very simple. Bangladesh which is west of India’s north-east is six hours ahead of the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) whereas the IST is five-and-a-half hours ahead of the GMT.
Let me cite an example. A farmer in the north-east is up and about by 4.30 a.m. IST since first light is visible by about 5 am. His counterpart in Gujarat however does not get up before 6 a.m. since sunrise in that part of the country is nearly an hour after it has hit the north-east.
Those who used to watch Night Rider ,Macgyver, The Fall Guy, The A team on Bangladesh TV would know the time difference between Dhaka and Delhi.

This is not the first time i heard about separate time zone for North East States, the above argument stated by the NDTV is a valid reason, i agree with it. India is a vast land, more than half the size of US, US have 8 different time zones.
In most North East States, we can see sunrise by 4 am, at the same time we still share the same time with the rest of India. Many people who are non-north easterners or even foreigners who had been to North East, usually suggest this separate time zone and i would not disagree with that.
