Aizawl, Aug 5: The IG Prison has violated the court’s order of giving four years of hard imprisonment to a rapist by granting him to leave prison citing illness. Sources have reported that state officials are involved in the scam.
According to reports, R. Lalhmangaihzuala, s/o R. Lalchhhinga from Lunglei Venglai locality was arrested for raping a nineteen year old girl on Novermber 11, 2001. Lucy Lalrinthari, ADM (J), on April 25, 2006 then convicted him of the rape giving him four years of imprisonment in the Lunglei Jail.
Not pleased with the outcome of his trial, Lalhmangaihzuala appealed to the High Court on August 11, 2006 but the High Court stood by Lucy’s verdict and furthermore, fined him Rs. 2000 for his appeal.
After six months of imprisonment, Lalhmangaihzuala took leave from prison after getting consent prison officials on September 19, 2006 and never returned back to prison till today, sources said.
ADM (J) KL Liana, on hearing the news, took actions quickly and gave an order to the Lunglei Police Statio officer in-charge to investigate the case of Lalhmangaihzuala.
Police inquiry reports showed that Lalhmangaihzuala was let off from the Lunglei prison as he had a doctor’s letter that demanded that he leave prison for his health problems. On September 26, 2006, IG Prison R. Hrangtawna gave a fourteen day leave to the rapist because of his health problems and he never returned back from that day, police reports revealed.
According to the police inquiry reports, Lalhmangaihzuala’a leave was extended by his doctor every time his time of leave comes close to its end and the IG Prison had no choice but to let him take his leave as it would be againt the law if he had refused to extend his leaves.
On August 2, 2007, ADM (J) KL Liana gave an order to the IG Prison not to further extend Lalhmangaihzuala’s leave from prison which would end on August 26, 2007. He also gave an order to the Lunglei District jail superintendent that R. Lalhmangaihzuala should report back to prison on August 27, 2007.
Sources have reported that R. Lalhmangaihzuala is a very close relative of certain state officials and because of this, he is able to walk freely while getting convicted to serve four years of hard time in prison.
State prosecutors and Lalhmangaihzuala’s defence lawyers further told the ADM (J) that during his trial upto the day when he was convicted, Lalhmangaihzuala was never reported to have any illnesses or health problems.
Sources further revealed that R. Lalhmangaihzuala is currently roaming about in the state capital and is having talks with his high official relatives about the extension of his leave from prison.

A relative of state officials, so because of that he do not serve his sentence, just a 4yrs in jail for murder! He should be sentence for more years….
