There has been a lot of heated discussions and debates on this website recently. We disagree with one another and learn from each other (hopefully) in the process. We have many people with big egos (including myself…lol) who always think they are right. I think these discussions are fairly healthy altogether even though some discussions go out of hand and personal attacks/threats are made at times. I strongly believe that everyone has the right to express their views and opinion regardless of how offensive the subject might be (unless it is a serious threat). That is what “Freedom of Speech” is all about.
That being said, I am a little concerned by the worldviews and attitudes of many people here. I do not mean to judge anyone (especially through an online forum), but there general attitude and perspective some people somewhat bother me. Please do not take this the wrong way. I am not trying to say I am better, I am not trying to judge anyone and I am not trying to put anyone down. I am also not trying to get philosophical or sentimental.
“Materialistic” and “Superficial” are the two words I would use to describe the general tone of many of the discussions here. I have always felt that materialism and superficiality have been our [Mizo] culture’s biggest weakness. I think the discussions on this website reflect this fairly well. People discuss about what culture is better than the other, what country is better than the other, what company is better than the other etc.
These are good discussion topics, but the thing that bothers me is people’s reasoning and criteria on how they judge a particular thing, person, culture, country, company etc. It just seems to me that many people here overemphasize the value of materialistic success, social/professional rank, social class and societal reputation. I am not saying that these things are not important, but I strongly feel that they are overemphasized in our [Mizo] culture (and this website).
I believe these types of aggrandizements very often hinder important qualities such as respect, originality, creativity and individuality (excessive individuality on the other hand is not good). At times, they even obstruct justice, impartiality and legitimacy. For example, a Mizo boy/tlangval from a wealthy/changkang family with good education (and free from drugs) could pretty much marry any girl he wants in our [Mizo] society. There would probably be hundreds of mothers who would try and hook the guy up with their daughters. This is just materialistic and superficial to me. The fact that the boy is well educated and has good family background does not say anything about whether he is an extrovert/introvert, sensitive/insensitive, aggressive/passive, patient/impatient, promiscuous/faithful etc. I could come up with a thousand examples, but this is getting way too damn long.
Let me add a quick rant on the economic/commercial/technological (whatever the hell you want to call it) discussions that have been going on here. I am not smart enough to understand a lot of the things that you all talk about (I am a little behind on technology), but it just seems to me that some people are a bit materialistic and superficial. I respect your passion and interests, but I think some of you are a little obsessive and overemotional (especially during some of the heated discussions). Anyway, I better end this thing soon (way too long now).
One last example…
America is one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Economically and militarily, it is right on top. It has a great government, judicial system etc…all kinds of systems that are almost impeccable by our standards. Many Americans live lavish lifestyles, make tons of money, buy tons of things etc. However, success is not everything. What about “true” friendships, community life and societal associations? What about happiness? Why is there is saying that “a German handshake is more precious than an
America hug”? Anyway, hope you get my drift. My final world (this time for real!)…Regardless of your level of education, your occupation/job, your income, your wealth, your class, your popularity and your power, if you do not have “real” friends or are not happy (someone finish this sentence for me)…

Yes, the US are such a military power that they have to show their strengths by attacking countries that can hardly defend itself….bwahahahah..
If they are so proud of themselves why dont they attack China and end the Taiwan problem….at least it will be a better reason than attacking Iraq over WMD that does not exist, or for that matter even North Korea, at least its proven they have Nukes.
Last heard, The US is planning to attack Bangladesh…muahahahah

US did not attack to any country to show its strength, it attacked for a particlular mission such as removal of taliban regime, removal of Saddam hussein and protection of Albanians in kosovo etc which can only be done with military intervention.
Why should US attack china while US have the best relationship it ever had with china over the past 50 years? How many people were killed during the past 30 years because of China-Taiwan conflict or even North Korea/ S Korea hostility? Your profound ignorance is disheartening considering you are probably considered educated in where u live

@ Aryan
You do not have to be a Buddhist monk to put friendship, social life and happiness ahead of material sucess. I am not saying that someone should quit school/college and have fun and party all the time. Some people are very good and prioritizing and time management. Life is too short, do whatever makes you happy (as long as you do not go out of hand). For me, social interactions plays an important role in my level of happiness

@Aryan…First I dont consider myself educated….if I had been, I would have lived in a foreign country like you and earned millions of dollars. If a poll is taken of misual.commers, I bet i will be the least educated here.
But one question, Give me one good reason for the removal of Saddam Hussein, I thought the US said Iraq had WMD, but as far as I know, until now no proof of the weapon has been found, forget the weapon. But then again, I might be wrong cause after all I am uneducated.
Im also pretty sure Taiwan is a sore point in China-Us relations. And if my humble theory is correct, if China had the military power of say, Bangladesh, The US would have probably attacked China and “Liberated”
Taiwan in the name of “Freedom”.
Oh, Btw please give me the reason for the Mai Lai massacre by the US soldiers, It will be enlightening for an uneducated person like me.

Yes you are right, you are among the most uninformed person when it comes to international relations.
1. Saddam killed more than 100,000 people of his own and continued to oppress until his last days. Removing him was everyones dream not only by his own people but also for all of Iraq’s neighbour many of whom were invaded and attacked by Saddam Hussein such as Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia and Israel. Whether Iraq had WMD is irrelevant. Remmeber it was Iraqis who celebrated and danced on the street when he was removed from power, remmeber it was Iraqis who celebrated once again when he was executed. Sweet justice brought to you by America!
2. Why should US liberate taiwan and from what? As far as I know Taiwan is NOT occupied by China. It has been de facto independent state since 1949 despite chinese claims. It has its own constitution, President and parliament. There has not been a single Chinese interference in Taiwan during the past 60 years. What more could you wish for? Not every sore spot is not solved by military force as idiot like you seems to think.
Go to wikipedia and read Mai lai massacre if you want to read about it.

About Saddam, A country like Iraq needs a leader like Saddam who can crush rebellions mercilessly. During Saddams reign, Christians could go to church without fear of being attacked, but after the US invasion the small christian communities live in constant fear of being attacked by the Jihadis.
Wasnt the alleged possesion of WMD by the Iraqis that promted the US to invade Iraq? Atleast as far as I know thats what they told the world to justify the invasion, though we all know OIL was the real reason.
About the China-Taiwan-US triangle, please google it yourself, or if it is as you say there is nothing in between themand all is hunky dory, please provide the link to back up your claims.
Oh, and the us relation with Iran is never better youll say, at least until they invade Iran, then its just a matter of Who’s next.
btw, Maybe its beacuse I’m an uneducated moron that i Simply cant believe every word written on Wikipedia, but if educated people like you trust it, then it must always be 100% true.

OK so christians can go to church and that justifies Saddam’s killing of 100,000 of its citizens? I bet your God love the blood of iraqis ! Yes it was alleged possession of WMD and yes we do know the motive for securing Oil supplies which in turn is a good thing for rest of the world that Mid East Oil is no longer under the control of a Dictator who can cut off oil supplies at will affecting world economies. Despite the current conflict, oil prices are largely stable ;albeit high which is not because of war but rising demand from china, india and other fast growing economies.
I do not have to google about China-Taiwan-Struggle. As of now; Taiwan is NOT occupied by any country, neither was for the past 60 years. Despite tension between China and taiwan, and war of words between the two government, they have been at peace for almost 60 years. How can you liberate a country/territory from China that is NOT ruled or occupied by China?
Why do i have to provide link? Seen or heard any news of Chinese troops occupying taiwan? last time i checked news, taiwan was far more peaceful and freer than India, hardly in need of any liberation LOL!
Educated people can take look at those article, look at the discussion by opposing views behind the article and make educated and informed decision on historical events. If you cannot do that, you have a long way to go my dear!

But, on the other hand, I’d rather remain an uneducated moron and stay true to who I am and to my roots rather than be highly educated, live in a foreign country and degrade my roots.
btw, fyi, I’m and Atheist.
