AIZOL TIMES
Aizawl, Sept 23: The state Home Department is still puzzled how to use the 4.5 lakh rupee polygraph machine (lie detector) which it had purchased in 2004. Reports have stated that the highly expensive machines have not helped in solving one single police case as there are still no expert operators of the machine even after three years of its purchase.
The state government had made a proposal to the central government to purchase two polygraph machines which the central government complied by sanctioning Rs. 4,00,000 for the machines under the 11th Finance Commission. However, the state decided to purchase two machines at the rate of Rs. 4,55,000 per machine.
Although the state can boast of having two polygraph machines for more than three years, there is still not yet a single expert who can operate the machines. Moreover, there have been no reports of the state having given training anyone to operate the machine.
