India Calling

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

An interesting article about anĀ Indian-American who moved to India to live and work.

If our parents left India and trudged westward for us, if they manufactured from scratch a new life there for us, if they slogged, saved, sacrificed to make our lives lighter than theirs, then what does it mean when we choose to migrate to the place they forsook? My firsthand impression of India seemed to confirm the rearview immigrant myth of it: a land of impossibilities. But history bends and swerves, and sometimes swivels fully around.

In search of Ninth Side

Monday, November 24th, 2008

I was wondering where NINTH SIDE, the band which released their 2 videos last winter, has disappeared. So I went to mizotube.com just to browse. Their two videos were there. And in addition, I managed to locate one of the songs from their singer’s (Dawnglura Pachuau) solo project. I don’t know if it’s a demo or the final product, but it does make nice listening, so I’m posting the link here for direct listen –

It takes a lot of things to be sexy – but apparently a belly button isn’t one of them. E! entertainment television has just named supermodel Karolina Kurkova the sexiest woman in the world.

In earning the honor, the Czech-born beauty beat out fellow Victoria’s Secret models Giselle Bundchen, Adriana Lima and Heidi Klum, who placed fourth, sixth and seventh on the list, respectively.

Nepal ‘Buddha Boy’ returns to jungle

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

A young man believed by followers to be a reincarnation of Buddha has returned to Nepal’s jungles to meditate alone, police said Saturday, as scholars cast doubt on his supporters’ claims.

Known as the “Buddha Boy,” Ram Bahadur Bomjam, 18, became famous in 2005 after supporters said he could meditate motionless for months without water, food or sleep.

“Bomjam went back into the jungle late Friday and all the devotees have left,” police officer Gobinda Kushwaha told AFP from Neejgad, a town in Bara District, 60 kilometres (37.5 miles) south of Kathmandu.
