Era of Mizo Music
Formative Period AD 1400 -1500.. During this period, while living in the Chin Hills, speech-tone to the three to four tones scales were in use. the main themes were dealing with mourning, shamefulness and distress.
Pre-Migration period AD 1500-1790
Before migration to Lushai Hills (Mizoram) the introduction of pentatonic scale as well as melancholy can be noted.
Post Migration period AD 1810- 1890
The British arrived in the Lushai hills in 1871. During that time native composers started to compose songs containing lyrics of love, pride and provocation. the pentatonic scale remained throughout this period, although songs of three and four tones were also composed during this period.
Christian period 1899-1959
Arrival of missionaries Hymns and instruments were introduced. Next to the continuing style of the former period, the diatonic scale was newly introduced.
Western period…heihi chu kan hria
