Aizawl/New Delhi: North East Students Federation (NESF) said on Thursday that two Chakmas nominated to represent Mizoram at the Special Cell For North-East in New Delhi need not resign.

The Mizo Students’ Union yesterday had opposed their nominations and sought their resignations stating that there were a good number of people from the Mizo community to represent Mizoram.

“NESF hereby stands by it’s decision and states that Lokesh and and Binny Chakma will under no circumstance resign. This is the time for us to be united and work together for the upliftment of just about anyone and everyone from the North east region by looking beyond ethnicity and region,” President of NESF, Abhijit Sharmah, said in a statement.

The student federation also sought to dispel doubts over the issue with a statement that all north east student organisations were invited during the selection process for the coordinators. “And specially all the organization of Mizoram were contacted. Since Mizo Students Union (Delhi,DMZP) failed to respond; existing active members from the state of Mizoram (Delhi Mizoram Chakma Students Union) were nominated. We request them to take the matter with the concerned authorities to clear any doubt regarding the nomination,” NESF said.

#149 @ Amah Charice_mizo, the first sentence which you referred are not my words. Those are the words of Hnampual-Students’ Joint Action Committee, comprising of 7 ethnic minority students groups, as reported in Mizonews.net (https://www.mizonews.net/mizora.....izo-unity/ )

Further, today Vanglani reported that Central Young Lai Association (CYLA), Mara Thyutia Py (MTP) and Central Young Chakma Association (CYCA) opposed the CYCA resolutions.

Why are these ethnic groups reacting in this manner, openly condemning the CYMA? This is because of the “ghost” I called alienation .

@ Amah Charice_Mizo: My brother kindly also read this news in Zonet.in of November 20th, 2012

“Central Young Lai Association, Mara Thyutli Py and Central Young Chakma Association asked Central YMA to withdraw its decision taken on the 14th Nov Meeting. In a joint meeting held in Lawngtlai DC Conference Hall today, the 3 NGOs passed a resolution to asked the Centre for transfer of more power to the 3 Autonomous District Councils in south Mizoram. In a joint press released the 3 NGOs described the decision taken by Central YMA as uncalled for and against Fundamental Right in the constitution. They also termed it as a step towards oppression of weaker section of the people. The 3 NGOs asked Central YMA to clarify the ethnic group called ‘Chibing’. They also asserted that Lai, Mara and Chakma are communities. Those who signed on the press statement included Central YLA President, Mr. LZ Tluanga, MTP President, Mr. T. Chatlua and Central Young Chakma Association President, Mr. Sossy Bhushan Chakma and their respective Gen. Secretaries. It may be recalled that
Central YMA has decided to oppose transfer of more power to 3 Autonomous District Councils in south Mizoram and formation of Churches, Political Parties and Students Association in the name of sub tribes of Mizoram. Earlier this was discussed and strongly objected by the Office Bearers of Central Young Lai Association, Lai Students Association and Hnampual Students Joint Action Committee.”

You see, the Central Young Lai Association, Mara Thyutli Py and Central Young Chakma Association clearly stated that the CYMA resolutions dated 14th November were “a step towards oppression of weaker section of the people.” This is what I meant by “sense of alienation”.

Don’t accuse me of trying to disintegrate the Mizos. Rather, I want peace and harmonious development of Mizoram, which is possible only if all communities can live in peace and development. Dont u agree. Or, do you have different ideas?

Famous Robert The Bruce announced “Men fight for me because if they do not, I throw them off my land and I starve their wives and their children.” This was many centuries ago, I wonder what CYMA was aiming for when they were issuing the Diktat to curve Development and Freedom of Association and ban on identity and Rights of the minority communities such as Mara, Lai, Hmar and Chakma in 2012. It is painful to see my beloved Mizoram being devided in the line of Ethnicity by an organisation like Young Mizo Association that i had tremendous respect for.
Few days back it was 7 organizations of Minority Communities and now CYMA’s counterpart Chakmas (CYCA), Maras (MTP) and Lais (CYLA) are sending a very strong and irrevocable signal by demanding withdrawal of CYMA’s Discriminatory and Unlawful Resolution. Without mixing any words the 3 minority organizations demanded explanation from the Mizo organization.
