If you read the article at newslink carefully, LYE is also mentioned, which is a strong combo of sodium or potassium hydroxide and in high concentrations produces the type of caustic burns that you can see by Googling “potassium hydroxide” for images.

Though bacteria and other micro-organisms cannot dwell in smoked foods, but when you “smoke” food, the smoke deposits harmful compounds in them. You know, similar to smoking…

BTW, soy sauce is fermented food and is sanctioned by the USDA, which cite the presence of isoflavones as a health benefit, which scientists say can help to reduce one’s risk of contracting cancer. hehe..
