Since the middle of last week, with the elimination of one contestant from the Top Ten every evening, Aizawl-ers have been spending a couple of hours from 8.30 onwards glued to their TV sets as they watch the most entertaining local TV program ever, Youth Icon…(my sister who doesn’t watch the show complains that nobody replies to her sms-es when Icon’s on air). Viewers all over town have been showering their favourite candidates with gifts galore, from mobile handsets, DVD players, custom-made clothing and cash to year-long free Sumo/bus rides etc. But every evening, there has been one elimination…sometimes with a free flow of tears and other theatrics, sometimes with a cheerful smile. Tonight was the turn of Zomuanpuii to sing her swan song…
She leaves behind a tough field of little, big-voiced 15 year old Zoramchhani of North Vanlaiphai, Esther Lalchhanchhuahi of Chhinga Veng, with her amazing voice control, Lalhmingsanga of Republic Veng, he of the lilting tenor and long hair, and K. Lalremmawia of Rulchawm, who’s gamely keeping up with the competition with one polished performance after the other.

Meanwhile, since we’ve been updating you all here on misual ever since the show was first aired, why don’t you guys send in votes…either via sms or calls between 10 am to 3 pm? Every contestant has a special cellfone # which they’ve been gifted with from Airtel. You’re supposed to vote in with their contestant numbers to their fone numbers…

LPS should make a CD of the whole program (like was/is done for Top of the Pops, Friends, Who’s line is it anyway etc. – where you can buy these collections in a video/ cd shop).
Would be good for those of us who live outside Mizoram, so that we can also watch the action, even if a little bit late.

I believe Airtel & BSNL will share the revenue that has been generated from sms votes. That’s how these kinda things are usually done. But I wonder how much that would come to, considering our population.
