The state government will soon announce a wine policy for developing the wine industry and to exploit the potential of the large grape cultivation base in Karnataka
According to sources, the government is likely to liberalise wine production and change the image of wine from liquor to that of a normal beverage. Providing license to set up wine bars is also an integral part of the policy, the sources added. There is also a proposal to allow sale of wine in department stores, subject to final clearance by the State Cabinet.
