I will dare to say this..”Thats the reason why” we(mizo) can never progress..we are scared to dream big..so what if it takes 10 years to build it, it will be built..so what if it takes ten years budget to build it, it will be done at the end anyways..If we look at things and say “DAMN, its out of my league/goal..” boy we have a real issue then, ull always settle for the second best!! I dont wanna sound cliche but “THIS PROJECT IS POSSIBLE”.
Let me add this to remind everyone here that when they first tore down the land below the jail(was it central jail) word passed around, some say Lalthanhawla hall an sa dawn etc etc, then the land stood empty as congress went out of power, then word passed around some more such as this or that is going to be built, but majority of us doubted anything will be done, that it was just a waste, then after 7 years or so word spread that Millinium centre was to be built but by that time people lost their faith because it has been untouched for so long that I personally have even forgotten what used to be there(opposite Ahuja and those shops) and now look at it We have our Millinium Centre standing there against all odds and doubts. So yeah if our govt set their mind into it(set their mind so bad that it takes over their greed and temptation for corruption), its possible!!

This comment stems for my own observations:
    1. I have never seen elevated roads in the middle of the town in the places I have been. Therefore, I cannot see the feasibility of constucting flyovers in the middle of the city as Aizawl where there is absolutely no space to build a foundation…I can be wrong….time will tell…..
    2. Millineum Centre is badly planned…there could have been bigger parking spaces built…it is damn confusing to drive in there and find directions to find the parking -exit route/ place or route….it is a recent building…the govt could have solved the congestion if they had planned parking spaces properly…
    3. People should learn to travel by public transport. In my days, we used to walk the length from Sikulpuikawn to Ramhlun…or travel by bus…what is the big deal now? Where I live now, I travel within town by public transport, and it saves me time and the enviroment a bit of the useless energy my car emits…….

amendment to my comment at 2:20am – elevated roads are usually constructed outside the residence or commercial areas where there is space, but it is not usual to find that in places I have been tho an underground system run few 100ms from where I live…
Coming back to Aizawl…..do we have the space? and also, how about the landslide probs we have because of the shifting soil?
Would it not be easier and cheaper to build a proper parking space and a better public transport facility? After all these years, I still find it easier to walk thru the town…it takes me the same amount of time to walk from Sikulpuikawn to Ramhlun:-)

When i wrote this article..i didnt try to convince none of the guys who believe in this plan of constructing Elevated Road, to accept my views. It might be possible but the chance is pretty slim. If you can see the picture of our roads between Bawngkawn to Kulikawn in your mind’s eyes, then you will realize that this plan could be just another empty promise of politicians who are hunger for votes. Remember, next year is the Election.

We need to look into the realities. we dont have to fall over and over again for their lies. If there is a plan for constructing some fly-overs here and there….then I would say, ‘yes, why not ?’ but this is totally a different issue – why ? Because, it is not about constructing fly-over here and there, it is about constructing an Elevated Road from Bawngkawn to Kulikawn ! I dont appreciate of them being dreaming this big…And as I mentioned in this article, to me, the best medicine for our ailing traffic in Aizawl is to turn to Suburban Housing Projects….expanding Aizawl city.

Its not that we dare not to dream big…its just that our leaders often make us dream just too big with all their so called ‘promises’ which often ends up in nothing…

To dream big…we need to know the realities first.

1)How can you expect to build elevated road without acquiring land near & along the route where the dream elevated road will be built. Let us wait and see. Am afraid those who cannot build Flyover at Khatla could dare to do this long stretch.
2)Millenium Centre is one good attempt by the Govt but the cost is rather high. The Parking according to original design was 3 floors having seperate Entrance & Exit but finally built only one floor as the basement which was dug for the Parking was filled up by “Nu thiltitheitak insak leivung paih vangin”.
3)I am with you guys spreading Aizawl towards Lengpui and Tanhril, Durtlang to Sihphir, Zokhawsang, Lungleng, Muallungthu etc all from ridgeline to down to the River/Stream. No more building in the present Aizawl we can’t afford to have more traffic jam than what it is today. JUST SPREAD OUT
4)Toachieve spreading out policy as almost all the empty land belongs to the Rich people we need strong Govt to fix Land Ceiling beyond which one has to surrender back to Govt. Tax those who owns 10Ha @ Rs 1 lakhs pa and increase exponentially so that Land Shark (Ram-Hmangaihtu) will yield.

There are already too many people in Aizawl. The capital controls everything, and there is nothing left for other villages. The state government thinks nothing for other places although they talked about it a lot. The solution is to shift the capital to a place at least 100 kilometres away, and traffic in Aizawl will ease authomatically. It can remain a commericial city, and some government offices must remain there. The new capital will grow by itself. It may cost a few crores of Rupees, but for the political health of the people of Mizoram, it will be money well spent.
