Fake currencies worth nearly 2 lakhs seized

Aizawl July 29: Sleuths of the Aizawl District Special Branch of the police department have seized Rs 1,98,000 in counterfeit currencies following a tip off from an informer.

According to the police, they had learned that the money had arrived in the state capital yesterday morning but could only manage to arrest the man in whose possession the fake currencies were in the evening.

“These are the kind we call ‘ISI mark’ currencies because we believe they are printed by a foreign government. They are very difficult to detect and you can use it anywhere in India and no one will be the wiser that they are fakes,” a police source said today.

The police seized 397 500 RBI notes from Vanlalrova (27) who lives in a rented house in Dawrpui area in the state capital. The man, who goes around the state and outside the state doing various businesses, is originally from West Phaileng, the police said.

Vanlalrova has been remanded to police custody for 72 hours after he was produced at a court here today.
