Aizawl August 8: In a shocking incident of a rape of a minor, a three-year old girl was snatched from the bed she was sleeping in with her grandmother and brutally raped last night at Phunchawng locality.
Police have detained two men in connection with the case who have been identified as Zoliana and Suresh, a non-Mizo.
Although police have not revealed much information about the case, it has been learnt that the victim’s mother, a divorcee has a boyfriend which she chases shamelessly. When the incident occurred last night, the mother was absent and was with her boyfriend, the police said.
Explaining how the incident took place, a police source today said it was very dark last night when the sleeping child was snatched from the bed in which she was sleeping soundly with her grandmother. The grandmother too did not apparently wake up because the rapist was able to take the child away and rape her at a house near the neighbourhood.
Keeping a hand over the mouth of the child to prevent her from crying out, the rapist had his way with the child after which the child was left to her own devices, the police source said.
The child suffered injuries to her private parts and a lot of blood was found at the place where she was raped.
Police said the boyfriend of the mother is not the prime suspect though they have taken him in for questioning. The prime suspect, according to the police, is the non-Mizo who has been identified simply as Suresh.

H.VANGCHHIA I agree that a criminal like this deserves to be hanged. The problem is that in a case like this, it would be very hard to determine who exactly committed the crime, especially without DNA evidence. Therefore, it is very possible that the wrong person could be charged. If the wrong person is hanged, that would just be horrific. I have also read about innocent people who have been killed by the death penalty even in a country like America due the errors during the investigation.
