Aizawl, Sept 16: The Ngopa police found a man hanging himself in the Ngopa police station lock-up yesterday after being arrested on suspicion of poisoning his own son.
According to reports, Paukhanmang, aged 27, a resident of Haichin in Myanmar was found hanging in the Ngopa lock-up yesterday at around 6:30 am after being arrested on charges of poisoning his own son.
Paukhanmanga, a divorcee, had come back to Hrianghmun village where he used to live earlier on September 11 to take his son Nangthansanga, aged 5, to Myanmar whom he had been separated from since March after divorcing his wife Zenngaihchhingi. He, however, changed his plan and went back home to Myanmar even after his wife agreed to his request.
He then went back again to see his son on Friday, gave him a banana and a black pill to eat and fled back to Myanmar as soon as his son ate the black pill. Nangthansanga complained of having a tummy-ache as soon as he swallowed the black pill and was admitted to the Ngopa hospital. He was reported dead from poisoning at 6:30 pm.
Hrianghmun YMA, suspecting that Paukhanmang poisoned his own son, quickly formed a posse and ran his trail. The posse was able to meet up with him at Tuisa where he was apprehended and handed to the Ngopa police at 3:00 pm on Friday.
After spending the night in the Ngopa lock-up, Paukhanmang was found hanging himself at around 6:30 am. Police reports stated that Paukhanmang used his own trousers to hang himself. A police case had not been filed against him at the time of his death although a judicial enquiry had been made.
Sources reported that Ngopa YMA made a casket for Paukhanmang and sent it back to Hrianghmun on Saturday.
