State to launch first ever Bamboo Fest

Aizawl, Oct. 2: Z.H. Ropuia, Tourism Minister said that the Mizoram Tourism department is all set to launch the first ever ‘Bamboo Festival’ from 4th -6th October at Berawtlang Tourist Complex, during his interaction with the press at the Tourism Conference Hall today.

Speaking to the press, the Minister stressed that the main aim of this festivals is to promote tourism in the state and to attract tourists with the state’s natural resources and its by-products. He also said that the festival will not only have lots of entertainment but also provide a platform to display various bamboo and other indigenous products, which is expected to promote quality tourism as well in the state.

During this Bamboo festival, various traditional dance, singing and cultural troupe from interior areas are expected to perform. A mini concert of sorts will conclude each festival day, where the gathering of audience can enjoy folk and contemporary music.

Out of this, exhibition-cum-sale of different handicrafts and handloom are expected. Food courts offering different cuisine and competitions in traditional games such as catapult shooting and stilt-walking will also be a part of the festival. A fashion show displaying traditional Mizo handloom will also be held, which promises to be different and eye-catching.

The Horticulture department will display major fruits and flowers which Mizoram is well known for such as anthurium, rose, papaya, squash, capsicum, tomato and passion fruit. It also plans to conduct demonstration and training on ginger ale, ginger candy and passion fruit juice.

A workshop on ‘Bamboo – The Ultimate Resource for Prosperity’ will be organized by the Environment & Forest department, which it hopes to spread awareness about the prospects of bamboo. The department will also organize a bamboo seedling show as well as display specimens of the various bamboo varieties found in Mizoram. An on-the-spot bamboo competition, where people can bring the “biggest bamboo” they can find, will be held.

The Tourism department has also confirmed participation from all the other north-eastern states, which will display their various bamboo products. The Union Ministry of Tourism had already sanctioned Rs. 10 lakhs for this Bamboo Festival.

    Tourism poh promote tum mah i al, tumah tak tak hi an lo kal tha duh lo ang !!! hlauhthawn tur a tam hran lo ang. Thiante ho poh hian an han tum teh thina, zoram kal hi, an zuzi leh mai thin.
