Of late, I have noticed some lady shouting “Amen” or “Halleluiah” loudly during hymns or prayers at our Bangalore Mizo Service.
Is this a general occurance in Mizo services? I do not recall having ever heard of this in any other non-mizo service, or even in mizo services in Delhi, Bombay or Calcutta.
Of course, never having lived in Mizoram during my school/college days I do not know how it is there. I have attended Christmas services in Aizawl, but haven’t seen such a thing.
Quite a strange and funny habit of the person..

heard of the Pentecost day? I too notice. The person must be very spiritual. I saw her joining Pi Mapuii Hostel Choir. So I guess she must be from there.

@Benjamin, “The person must be very spiritual”…what is your definition of Spiritual? Is it those people who shout and dance in the church, or those who are do good, being led by the spirit.
I think that this is one of the worst misconception we have as Mizos…that is labeling those who sing, shout, dance, speak in tongues as SPIRITUAL. Because many of these people are tho who are corrupt or those who exploit people.

A lot of posts – thanks all for the inputs.
However, some have posted this “Matthew 12:32 Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come”
Did I say anything against the Holy Spirit???? Or did I miss something here…???
I wrote this post because I have not experienced people shouting out Amen or Halleluiah anywhere else. Is it that only the Mizos are spiritual and that others who do not shout out loudly are not spiritual??? – when I say others, I do not mean individuals but communities…..

@Mizopa dont take it too personal, there nothing personal especially online….
For me I think your really brave to be able to share your thoughts with all MISUAL.com.
Guess what??? For some of us hearing people shouting Halleluiah is a norm and for others its a cultural shock as you have never experienced it. And you already made your point about that So…. Take it easy!!!!!
Just think about how successful your story is, it has so many hits with lots of comments…

interesting indeed, whatever the work of the Holy Spirit(how we put it) , there are still some people who do it out of their own reason or compulsion or however they put it to be. Some people feel i should shout halleluia or amen everytime they feel appropriate, but the fact of the matter is that this doesn’t in any way gauge their spiritual-ness or their gospel(ness).
On a lighter vein, it pulls out people from their nice slumber in the church or the habitual day-dreamers which funnily seems to start as soon as they start sitting in the church service.

Yap…. I have been trying to identify the person who used to shout “Haleluiah..amen” but without much success. This is a very strange occurrence in B’lore. I think I noticed only this year… may be from the past 2 to 3 months… Nyways for those of us who could not arrive for the service before 3.00 it’s a stupid task to try to identify a person who usually sit at the “khuangpu tlar” or khuangpu hnung”… hehe.

– It must be easier coz those who reach after 3 o’clock are usually pushed to the front line if you really want to sit inside :). But most of the late comers prefer to sit outside. So, tlar hnunga thut i duh chuan kal hma deuh rawh….
