Welcome to Mizoram. A whole new world of conscience keepers and youth forums run parallel governments in this state. The guardian angel of these groups is the Church. A physical reality which peeps from every bent of the road. The Church is the final destination in Mizoram. So, naturally I started walking towards a Church.
Church elders are very sophisticated and well read people. They were accommodating and had no reluctance in answering my uncomfortable questions. They knew where my questions came from and accepted that it’s this one institution which matters in Mizoram – one place where religion and politics apparently has had a healthy fusion.But step out and meet people and you hear that the Church is becoming ‘dysfunctional

The writer’s view of Mizoram politics is quite interesting to read and accurate (as far as I know). I quite agree with him. I recommend you read it too.
However, having visited Aizawl, it’s sad he still got the spelling wrong!.

Indeed, Mr. Bhattarcharjee has hit the point, a true reflections of our Mizo society.
for the record, there never was a perfect church, every church has it’s own drawback and limitations. Just for a thought, only a thought… ” think what will happen to the whole meaning of christianity and it’s relevance if there is no church.”

Only dysfunal people will say Churches are dysfunctioning. Dysfunction in what sense?, give me cogent explanation, ka ti leh tawp mai a ni. Imagine Mizo society without Churches, ka ti leh hmiah bawk. Saptawngin a daih tawh lo. hi hi.

In Mizoram, the church has played a crucial role in the social, political, educational, etc. life of the people. But like many other institutions, it is also ailing – an uncomfortable truth.
