Bangalore Airport, Domestic Departure
DONER, NEC, Mizoram CM for improved airport connectivity has been the NE news buzzword in the past few days. The following got my attention.
AIZAWL: Mizoram will seek permission from the Centre to avail of assistance offered by Russia for installing an instrumental landing system (ILS) at Lengpui airport to ensure stable air services.
I fully welcome this offer from Russian ambassador but why would they want to help us?

AIZAWL: Mizoram will seek permission from the Centre to avail of assistance offered by Russia for installing an instrumental landing system (ILS) at Lengpui airport to ensure stable air services.
Addressing a press conference with Union Minister for DONER Mani Shankar Aiyar here, Chief Minister Zoramthanga said on Saturday that the Russian ambassador, who visited the state recently, had conveyed his willingness to help improve the airport.
“The DONER minister advised me to seek the help of the Russian government,” he said, adding he would seek permission from the Centre in this regard.
Repeated cancellation of flights due to the absence of landing aids have made Lengpui airport a fair-weather airport and the state government had been pressuring the Centre, Airports Authority of India and the North Eastern Council to help install ILS at the airport.
I feel it is high time that Mizoram Govt handed over Lengpui airport to GOI for better management and for safety operation of Aircrafts in the best interest of the people of Mizoram. Govt of Mizoram is a begger government and they do not have the capacity to install ILS (this will reduce frequent cancellation due to fog) Look at the PTI context what they want is only REGULAR FLIGHT. They donot have vision to commertially utilise Lengpui Airport. Look at the pathetic condition inside and outside of the terminal area. Where is Cargo handling facility? Wehere is an attempt fo medernise the Airport? Is there any attempt to attract Tourist? Have the GOM built world class Tourism infrastructure? When the Runway wornout we all have to go down to Silchar to take flight. This is not far off

They do not want to hand over to AAI because it means losing the revenue.

The Revenue earned on Parking fees and Restaurant Space and Landing fees are too less,compared to the amount spent on staffs deployed there whose salary would exceed the revenue generated
