Aizawl July 24: A situation that could have gotten worse was averted after authorities of Chanmari locality here solved their differences with the Mizo Zirlai Pawl on the issue of movement restriction of non-Mizos within this locality.
Chanmari village council president Rosiamgnheta, talking to this newspaper this evening said the village council and the YMA of his locality had decided to give sometime to non-Mizos to purchase essential commodities despite the ban that had been enforced on them by the MZP and MSU on humanitarian grounds.
On learning this, the MZP officer bearers, led by their president P.C. Laltlansanga, went to the locality to try to stop the local authorities. Heated words were exchanged between the two parties but things finally cooled down when it was realized that the MZP had been given information that was a little off-track.
According to Rosiamngheta, the MZP had received information that the Chanmari village council has allowed all non-Mizos to step outdoors on grounds that the MZP has no authority to impose itself on the residents of Chanmari. However, when it was explained that the only reason behind the village council’s decision was humanitarian, the MZP accepted this and did not take up the matter further.
However, following the disagreement between the VC and the MZP, no non-Mizos were able to venture out after all, reports said later.

@Zorun: that was bang on. While in Kolkata, I’d always noticed the way conservative and also the not-so-conservative Bengalis would budget every damn thing and live quite easily on measly government job salaries and still be able to save up and buy a house, car, etc.
The more I’d earn, the more dissatisfied I am with how I use my money, not because I’m a spendthrift, but because it entices me to use more, spoiling my spending habits for the penniless rainy day. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I really look up to the Bengalis, but when it comes to their ability to prioritise their necessities and act upon those priorities… hats off to them.
