Aizawl, Sept. 19: The Mizoram Culivator and Labour Union today publicly revealed the names of 22 corrupt persons during their staged protest march against corruption called “Operation Nehemia”. The protest march started from Chanmari Traffic point and ended at the Aizawl Tennis Court.
Speaking to the gathering at the Aizawl Tennis Court, KC Lalliana, President MICLUN said, “Our union was established by the sweat and blood of farmers and labourers in the state who had been neglected for fifty five years in this state. Our union is for the poor in this state and we are willing to lay our lives down for our fellow members who have been ignored by the state for too long.”
“MICLUN is totally against corruption but revealing the corrupt had always been a difficult task. However, the passing of the Right to Information Act by the Parliament has helped us to investigate corruption in this state and we are now ready to reveal corrupt officials in this state,” he continued.
He also stated that as the union cannot make an investigation on every department in the state for now, an investigation was launched on the Integrated Wasteland Development Project alone and 22 persons were found to have illegally misused public money from the investigation.
“Our state will never stand own its own feet as long as we promote corruption. The corrupt officials that we have revealed can be punished under IPC section 192, 193 and 196 as their actions are all against the Prevention of Corruption Act,” he said.
The union also passed nine resolutions during the mass rally with the resolutions being:
1. Monitoring Cell should be set up in every project in every department so that cultivator and farmers in the state can enjoy their fair share from the projects.
2. The gap between the rich and the poor is wide due to corruption, so corrupt persons should be given their due punishment to preserve our culture and religion.
3. BPL departments should be amalgamated to one department for better administration.
4. The state should implement the APMC Rules (The Mizoram State Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee) as soon as the possible as had been demanded by the central government.
5. Every department should confirm the market condition in every project which they are to launch so that farmers and cultivators in the land will not face problems from the projects.
6. The Agriculture/Horticulture departments etc should make plans in every district in Agriculture/ Horticulture and village level plans in every villages. The state must then make budgets according to the plans made by the departments.
7. Every department in the state must declare their plans and estimated expenditure as had been done by the Agriculture Department.
8. There must be a10% reservation for farmers in I.T.I training programmes.
9. The state government should put Rs. 2 lakhs to 5 lakhs for each farmers every new plans to uplift the farmers.
