Delhi NE student orgs to compete for RNT Memorial Trophy

New Delhi, November 12, 2007: The Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD) is organizing the first Tamchon Memorial Football Trophy from 15 November to 1 December 2007 at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, ITO, New Delhi. The trophy, which is on invitational basis only to student unions from Northeast region in Delhi, aims to promote friendship, unity and interaction through games and sports amongst the Northeastern people in Delhi.

The trophy is organized in memory of late Mr. RN Tamchon, ACP, Delhi Police who unfortunately passed away in 2005.

The trophy matches will be played in league system and FIFA Rules will be followed. The winner of the trophy will be awarded with the TNSD trophy in addition to rupees one lakh case prize, medals and certificates. The trophy can be owned by any team who wins the trophy consecutively for three years.

The first-runners up will be awarded medals and certificates, with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The second-runners up will also be awarded medals and certificates along with a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
Entry to the stadium is free to all.

Altogether, 16 student unions’ teams will be vying for the trophy. The 16 participating teams are divided into four groups – A, B, C and D. Each of the team will play thrice against the other teams in the group. The opening match of the trophy will be played between the organizer’s team – Wung United and the Hmar Students’ Association Football Club (HSA FC).
