Tigers play a key role in the food chain and help to maintain a balance in the ecosystem.Tiger is the top predator and feeds on herbivorous animals, thus helping to prevent a complete destruction of vegetation.THE UNENDING calls for protection of tigers on television and newspapers got me thinking about how the cause would benefit human beings and also about how we could contribute to the mission.
I thought of first finding the answer to my former query and consulted my sister on the same. In her words, “Tiger is our national animal and should therefore be protected.” What she said was right but there had to be more to it .What I learnt was that the tigers play a key role in the food chain and help to maintain a balance in the ecosystem.
To put it in simple words, tiger is the top predator and feeds on herbivorous animals, helping to prevent a complete destruction of vegetation. Higher the number of tigers in the forest the safer is the ecosystem, which in turn will ensure an uninterrupted supply of ecological services like clean air, water, pollination free environment, temperature regulation etc to human beings and help them live long and healthy lives.
