The Young Mizo Association members of Mission Veng on witnessing some unlawful incidents at Sikulpuikawn area considered it necessary to have some members on duty in the concerned area to prevent further problems. On October 22, 2006, as a member of the YMA Mr. Zosanglura, after having his dinner around 8:00 pm proceeded towards the area for duty. After crossing the road, while walking on the side of the road a speeding bike hit him, hauling him over 2 taxis to a distance of around 15 feet. He landed on the side of the road and became unconscious from there on.
He was rushed to Civil Hospital Aizawl for medical treatment. On admission he was in a state of altered sensory rather unconscious. The doctors did all they could. There was blood clot in his brain which in the doctors’ opinion was a very serious case. He was then referred to Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI). Thus, on 26 October, 2006 he was taken to Kolkata and admitted to CMRI. He was further operated on, the same evening itself. During his stay in this hospital he was taken care of in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Altogether he underwent five (5) operations. He was expected to show slow improvement and needed regular monitoring. The doctors’ sympathizing with Zosanglura’s father who had spent a huge amount of money for his treatment, suggested that he be taken back to his home town and treated there, as they had done all they could. So he was discharged from CMRI on 24th January 2007 and taken back to Aizawl for further treatment.
On arrival at Aizawl, he was straight away admitted to Aizawl Hospital at Mission Veng. After being treated with care here, the doctors felt that he was too vulnerable to communicable diseases at the hospital, so they advised nursing at home. For some time he was treated at home but on 6th March, 2007 he was admitted to CARE Hospital due to repeated vomiting. After his vomiting subsided he developed fever and profuse watery diarrhea. He was treated for this as well. During his Hospital stay, his overall general condition remained largely unchanged. His eye examination showed that there was a problem in his eye sight, as well. He was however discharged from this hospital on 26 March, 2007 and till date has been nursed by family members at his home in Sikulpuikawn, Aizawl.
There seems to be little development after being treated at home. His family looks after him with much love and rejoices if they find a slight movement in his body. It gives them joy just to see him smile a little at their jokes. Looking at his son, who hardly seems to understand what is wrong with his father, brings tears to the eyes. The family had never expected nor dreamt in their wildest of dreams that such an accident would happen in their family and change their lives forever. The family needs lots of prayers at this time so let us remember them in our prayers.
The person responsible for all this pain in this family has survived with minor injuries and is free and out on bail. He is still seen riding bikes around Aizawl town and has not bothered to visit this family even once nor has he shown any interest in the condition of Zosanglura and his family. He does not show a tiny sign of remorse nor has he ever tried to lift even a finger for this family.
There are many people in Aizawl town who drive around in vehicles drunk and carelessly. They are a danger to themselves and also to the people on the streets. Their negligence has caused many to suffer like Zosanglura and we may never know how many are destined to suffer in their hands.
As he was the primary earning member of his family, his condition has caused tremendous mental and financial stress to his family who has to care for him every hour of the day. With these in mind, we, a group of his friends, have come together and decided to organize a Concert at Vanapa Hall on 2nd November 2007 in aid of our friend and his family.
